  • Helped shape an interview-led structure in place of a conventional narrated approach.

What I Personally Led

  • Co-led interviews and field production across multiple DRBA locations.
  • Advocated for an editorial pivot that centered the interviewees’ own voices rather than written narration.

Outcome

  • Two-part, 2-hour-15-minute documentary completed in December 2023.
  • World premiere at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas on April 28 and May 4, 2024.

John Coates served as President of the Australian Olympic Committee from 1990 to 2022. A highly influential figure in international sport, he has been widely regarded as one of Australia’s—and the international Olympic movement’s—most influential sports diplomats.

Project Context

A major international documentary series developed in cooperation with the China Olympic Promotion Association and the International Olympic Committee. The production featured interviews with world sports leaders including Juan Antonio Samaranch, Jacques Rogge, and João Havelange, exploring Olympic history, leadership, and global influence through documentary storytelling.
